Hungarian Geotechnical Society

The Hungarian Geotechnical Society was founded in 2012 as the official Hungarian member organisation of ISSMGE (International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering). Previously, this role was performed by the Hungarian National Committee of ISSMGE within the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, but the conditions for its operation became increasingly difficult to ensure, and so it was transformed into an association. As before, the main focus is on academia, but through the ISSMGE Technical Committees (TC) there is also an unrivalled opportunity to participate in professional life. TCs are actively involved in the drafting of most European standards and technical specifications. In addition to standard setting, TCs organise thematic conferences every 4 years, which are always of a very high professional standard. In addition, European and World Conferences are held every two years, and the Young Geotechnical Engineering Conference is open to those under 35 years of age every year. These YGEC conferences, which are much more informal in atmosphere, are a great way to make contacts. Applications for conference participation can be made to the ISSMGE Foundation on a regular basis, but the Association is also happy to provide support to those who can actively participate in the work of a TC.

The Association is also committed to publishing professional aids in cooperation with the Geotechnical Section of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers. Our previous publications are available on the website of the Geotechnical Section (https://geotechnikaitagozat.hu/dokumentumok/).
